Ontario Tech announces two inaugural Teaching Scholars in Residence
Dr. Langis Roy, Interim Deputy Provost, is pleased to announce Ontario Tech’s inaugural Teaching Scholars in Residence (TSIR): Dr. Sharon Lauricella, Professor, and Randy Fortier, Associate Teaching Professor, .
The offers an opportunity to enhance teaching innovation and quality at Ontario Tech by engaging educational leaders who can support educational excellence campus-wide.
TSIRs are selected from a pool of applicants and are appointed for two years. They will receive course releases, funding, and support from the university’s . The TSIRs will work alongside TLC to provide a fulfilling student-centred experience.
The TSIRs will:
- Develop teaching innovation initiatives.
- Assess the impact of the initiatives.
- Mentor colleagues through activities such as workshops, facilitated learning communities, and other instructional development opportunities.

TSIR project: Are we having fun yet? Using edtech, feedback, fun, and choice to facilitate inclusive assessment.
Dr. Lauricella will focus on inclusive learning assessment, a project firmly rooted in the ethical application of technology, underpinned by equity, diversity, and inclusion. A recipient of multiple teaching awards, she will share her experience and expertise through a series of workshops and seminars.

TSIR project: nGauge: Effective engagement and agile instruction using modern communication tools and real-time classroom analytics.
Fortier has received multiple teaching-related awards. His initiative will focus on inclusive student engagement. His project will use nGauge, a communication tool that can be integrated across different platforms to provide immediate two-way interaction between students, and between students and their instructor. He will also share his work through interactive and engaging workshops.
